The West Monument was a project of the descendants of Chauncey Walker West. The original obelisk monument was of marble, and was aged to the point of names and dates being difficult, if not impossible to read. Rather than destroy the old memorial, it was decided that another monument, the same height, same design, would be created. The new monument replicated the old one, but was of Gray Granite, with black granite etchings of original photographs inset into the memorial. This new monument now lists all of Chauncey West’s descendants, and not just children who had passed away. A new monument….honoring the past.
