In 2010, two men, one a part-time volunteer firefighter, and one a career firefighter, desired to honor the fallen firefighters’ with a national memorial to all who died in the line of duty.

The city of Ogden, Utah, accepted their idea with the placement to be next to the city offices, on the main street of the city.

It was to be a memorial paid for by private funds.

Five years later, the main feature, half of the walls, and 25 state bronze medallions, are completed.

The walls contain 6,485 firefighters’ names…representing all 50 states, dating back to the late 1880’s.

Now the second half of the project, with the remaining 25 state bronze medallions are to be built.

There is also to be a new walkway leading to the main entrance of the memorial, lined with sixty (60) 32” x 16” red granite pavers, four (4) 4’ tall granite posts, and fifty (50) granite benches.

Another feature will be the life history of the firefighters’ whose names are inscribed upon the monument walls.
